Season-High Score Leads Acrobatics & Tumbling to Senior Day Win Over WLU

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team saved their best regular season performance for last in a narrow 253.420-251.225 victory over West Liberty on Saturday afternoon.
 
During the meet, FSU celebrated six Bobcats who are rounding out their careers in Nia Ivanov, Meghan Dunster, Isabella Mongelluzzo, Kaitlyn Enea, Marion Pastore, and Mackenzie Coyne.
 
Frostburg got off to a great start in the meet, taking each heat during the Compulsory Event en route to a 37.25-36.10. Their top score was a stunning season-best 9.90 in the Pyramid, while they also set season-high scores in the Toss (9.70) and Tumbling (8.45) heats. It seemed as though the Bobcats would continue their momentum into the Acro event, starting out with a 9.5-9.15 win in the 5-Element, however WLU came back with an 8.95-8.60 decision in the 6-Element, while the teams tied at 9.35 in the 7-Element for an even 27.45-27.45 event score.
 
Another tie proceeded in the Pyramid event, with both teams impressing at 9.55 in the Inversion heat, as it would be the Synchronized to prove the difference, with FSU winning 9.75-9.25 to hold off a close 9.90-9.85 Hilltopper advantage in the Open heat. With Frostburg's 29.15-28.70 victory in the event, they led 93.85-92.25 at halftime.
 
The Toss event furthered Frostburg's lead, as they took all three heats in a 26.90-25.75 win. Each of their heats featured at least an 8.85 with a high of 9.05 in the 450 Salto, while West Liberty's highest was a pair of 8.65's. WLU seemed set to take a convincing win in the Tumbling event, using strong scores of 9.35 and 9.05 in the Aerial and 6-Element passes, however Ivanov roared FSU back in the Open pass with a 9.35-7.325 win. The Hilltoppers did still manage to eke out a victory in the event, however it was less than a point at 48.175-48.15.
 
Headed into the Team event, the Bobcats held a near two-point advantage and were made to work after West Liberty put up an 85.05 during their turn on the floor. Frostburg was able to hold their own, losing the event at 84.52 but doing enough to secure the meet win at 253.420-251.225.
 
With the win, FSU improves to 4-5 on the year, while WLU finishes their season at 4-6. The Bobcats next will travel to Fairmont State for the Mountain East Tournament and Event Finals from Friday, April 11 to Saturday, April 12. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
