GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Basketball team was unable to recover from a low-scoring first half in their 88-72 road loss to Glenville State on Sunday evening.
 
GSU came out of the gate quickly with the first two layups of the game, holding the Bobcats scoreless for two and a half minutes until redshirt junior Justin Roseme grabbed a defensive board and took it the length of the floor. It would be another four and a half minutes until FSU scored again, while the Pioneers used the defensive stops to build a 15-2 lead, which was broken up by junior Chase Whippen and senior Koby Baptiste putting in back-to-back lay-ins.
 
Baptiste then went coast-to-coast on a rebound to cut the deficit to seven, but Glenville scored the next five to go up 20-8. Roseme knocked down a pair at the line and nabbed a steal for an easy bucket, but GSU kept the pressure on with six in a row for a 14-point lead. Freshman D'Yan Carter got on the offensive glass for a tip-in just before the final media timeout of the half, but that would be Frostburg's final field goal, as a triple, three free throws, and a slam dunk from the Pioneers gave the hosts a 34-15 lead at the break.
 
Still riding their momentum from the first 20, Glenville kept their offense going to start the second with three straight baskets and a 25-point advantage. Sophomore Zane McCarty knocked down the first three for the Bobcats as part of scoring six in a row, with Baptiste then adding a putback at the five-minute mark. Whippen got into the paint for a couple tough buckets either side of redshirt senior Naphtali Regilus hitting from distance, then freshman Trey Simmons added one of his own to make things 51-34.  
 
Simmons took over the offense with FSU's next five points, while Regilus again connected from range, but the Pioneers couldn't be stopped offensively, as back-to-back threes had them up by 27. Senior JayShaun Freeman then joined in on the three-point barrage, knocking down a trio of them then turning provider for another by redshirt freshman Blake Burrows, while Regilus went the length of the court for a 76-59 contest.
 
Freeman, Simmons, and Regilus all traded buckets with Glenville, but the closest Frostburg could get was 16 with two minutes left. Burrows, redshirt freshman Cash Herndon, and freshman Brady Walters scored the final six of the game, with the final being 88-72 in favor of the Pioneers.
 
Freeman (12), Regilus (11), and Simmons (11) each reached double figures in the scoring column, while Baptiste grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
 
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 3-8 on the year, while Glenville State improves to 5-5. The Bobcats will return to action in the new year, as they travel to D'Youville on Friday, January 3 at 6 p.m. Information and updates will be posted at frostbugsports.com.
