Singles Play Leads Men's Tennis to Home Win Over Kutztown

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's tennis team won its Fall home opener over Kutztown by a final score of 4-3. 

Kutztown started off strong, sweeping the doubles matches, as FSU put up a strong fight in the two spot, with freshmen Sergi Rodriguez and Tiago Iser taking the match to tiebreaks and falling 7-6.

The Bobcats, down a point on the match, found new life in singles play, starting with senior Cole Alcala winning at No. 1 6-3, 6-1 to start strong. Senior German Diaz (6-2, 6-1) and Iser (6-2, 6-2) each also cruised to straight-set wins, while KU won at Nos. 5 and 6 to even the match at 3-3. At No. 4, senior Noah Fisher won his first set comfortably at 6-1, then was able to pull out a 7-5 set two win to seal the meet victory at 4-3. 
 
With the win, the Bobcats are now 2-0 on the early season, while Kutztown drops to 1-4. FSU will next travel to Catholic tomorrow, October 11 for a 12 PM start in Washington, DC. For more information visit frostburgsports.com
