Haney, O'Neill, Cline Take MEC Women's Lacrosse Major Postseason Awards
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced its 2024 Women's Lacrosse award winners and all-conference teams on Tuesday, one day prior to the start of the conference tournament.
Frostburg State sophomore attacker Neila Haney repeats as the league's Offensive Player of the Year, while graduate defender Maura O'Neill was awarded conference Defensive Player of the Year, and Bobcat head coach Taylor Cline received her third consecutive MEC Coach of the Year honor.
While also receiving All-MEC First Team honors, Haney racked up a team-high 49 goals during the regular season for fourth best in the MEC, while also sitting in fourth with 22 assists and tying for third with 71 points. Haney fired 108 shots so far on the year for a .454 shooting percentage, while scooping 28 ground balls, causing 16 turnovers, and picking up a team-high and fifth conference best 59 draw controls. Haney had eight games of three or more goals, including an eight goal performance in the Bobcats regular season finale against Davis & Elkins.
O'Neill also captured All-MEC First Team honors as well, leading the defensive effort for FSU with a team-high 35 caused turnovers for a top-five best in the conference, while picking up 30 ground balls for second most on the team. As a midfielder, O'Neill also captured 14 goals and 17 assists during the regular season for 31 total points, sitting with a .400 shot percentage off of 35 shots.
Cline, with her third straight MEC Coach of the Year honor, led Frostburg to their first season of undefeated conference play with a record of 8-0, for an overall record of 11-5. The Bobcats take their second straight MEC Regular Season title in Cline's fourth year of leading the program.
