2014-15 Frostburg State Cheerleading Season Preview

FROSTBURG, Md. – Seventh-year head coach Becki Carter is changing a few things surrounding her Frostburg State program, but her 2014-15 team has the talent throughout the roster to have its strongest season to date.

FROSTBURG, Md. – Seventh-year head coach Becki Carter is changing a few things surrounding her Frostburg State program, but her 2014-15 team has the talent throughout the roster to have its strongest season to date.

"We are starting fresh this year with new rules and a revamped focus," said Carter. "But I believe with the changes, we are poised to have our strongest overall season."

While Carter talks about starting fresh, she welcomes back a pair of seniors and four juniors that will provide veteran leadership to a roster peppered with 16 newcomers.

"We are a fairly young team as more than half the roster is comprised of freshmen and sophomores. However, with that being said, I believe we have the talent across the board to have the strongest season yet. I'm looking forward to the year as the whole team has worked hard in the preseason."

Mallory Disler (Senior), Asia Gaffney (Junior) and A'Lexus Blue (Sophomore) have been selected by Carter as team captains for the '14-15 season and she believes the trio have provided leadership and stability when it comes to the offseason changes.

"We have strong leaders that are grasping the new direction of the program and it's making for a better transition. The newcomers are hearing a decisive and unified message and its helping them to quickly adjust to collegiate cheerleading."

Disler is entering her fourth and final season as a Bobcat and is the squad's only four-year senior. She had adjusted well to the role of captain and has provided a strong knowledge of the program to her younger teammates.

In her third year with FSU, Gaffney is a very dedicated and enthusiastic student-athlete and she provides a positive example for her teammates to follow.

Blue has proven to be a real asset despite being with the program for just one year. She is a very knowledgeable and technical cheerleader and is always willing to help her younger teammates. She has a deep passion for cheerleading and has a solid background after cheering with the Maryland Twisters All-Stars prior to Frostburg.

Veteran flyer Arianna Ashton returns for her final year with Frostburg and Carter is expecting her to have a strong senior season.

Schedule
While the Bobcat cheerleaders can be seen at all home football and men's and women's basketball games, they also have a competition schedule that begins in early December.

The Bobcats will travel to the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., for the Cheer Sport Grand Championships on Saturday, December 6. In mid-January (17th-18th), Frostburg will once again travel to Orlando for the UCA College National Championships before wrapping up their competition slate with the Capital Athletic Conference Cheer Challenge at York (Pa.) College on Sunday, February 22.
