Cheerleading Places Ninth at 2017 NCA College Nationals
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Frostburg State University cheerleading team placed ninth at the 2017 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals on April 7 in Daytona Beach, Florida. As a first time competitor at the top collegiate competition in the nation, breaking the top ten was a monumental accomplishment.
The Bobcats finished the preliminary round, held the day prior, with a score of 88.06 . This score put the team in sixth heading into finals on day two. Unfortunately, they would not be able to maintain that position as point deductions dropped them into ninth place with a score of 88.40 just .05 out of eighth place.
Davenport University finished in first place for the third-straight year with a 96.48 final score. Taking home silver was Bridgewater State University, who maintained its second-place finish in the prelims with a day-two score of 94.32 and Elmira College held steady with a third place finish scoring 93.18.
Head Coach Becki Carter commented on her teams finish. "I am very proud of what this team has accomplished this year. As a first time competitor at NCA Nationals, the team was determined to reach their goal of making finals. They did just that and made themselves the first team in FSU history to do so. Being able to finish in the top ten in Division III was a bonus to an already great season. I am excited to see what the future holds for the FSU cheerleaders next season."
