Former Basketball Standout Maurice "Mo" Williams Releases Self-Published Book

A story that has lasted the lifetime of Maurice "Mo" Williams has now been put into his own authoring to be displayed and read with the release of "Dream Beyond Your Surroundings: How to use where you are as a road map to your purpose."

SALISBURY, Md. – A story that has lasted the lifetime of Maurice "Mo" Williams has now been put into his own authoring to be displayed and read with the release of "Dream Beyond Your Surroundings: How to use where you are as a road map to your purpose."

The 120 pages feature Coach Williams' personal outlook of his hardships and successes through life so far. In a 7-8 year process, Williams decided that his story was one worth sharing to others, "serving as a road map for people to follow" as he put. He describes his audience as "not just athletes or coaches, but to parents, those that are curious or spiritual, or anyone that thinks it can be of use to them."

His process began with writing down personal feelings and ideas during various stops along his coaching and teaching path. With the growth of social media, Williams found Twitter as a place to put these ideas for others to learn from and give feedback of their own. As more and more people gained interest in what he was saying, he decided that a book would be his best way to reach the most people while providing the most impact.

As he has learned through his spanning coaching career, however, Williams found rejection at various points, including publishers that would not take his project. Included in the details of his book, it didn't stop him from pursuing his dream, leading to the self-publishing route to keep pushing onward. "Persistence is a key attribute in my life and something I've always been proud of... without it, I would never be where I am today."

In his time as a player, he was cut from teams on multiple occasions, from his high school team in Ohio to twice in college, including at the program he is currently entrusted to lead, Salisbury University. It was at Frostburg State that Williams was given a chance to shine, under former coaches Webb Hatch and Sean Brown, Sr. "It was an open door to me when so many others were closing", Williams said, "My mother always told me, if you quit, it'll never happen." The experience and opportunity at FSU led him to pursue a career in coaching, featuring various stops along the way, at all levels of basketball.

Those experiences eventually took him to the top, being named the Head Coach of Salisbury Men's Basketball in April of 2019. He didn't see the job as a chance to "get back" at the program that once let him go, but simply "wanting to get the program back to winning a championship".

Coach Williams' book can be found on Amazon or purchased directly through him, with the latter option including a handwritten note with his signature as a thanks for supporting his endeavor.
