Men's Swimming Sits at Top of Conference, Third Overall After Opening Day of Championships
CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming Team sits at the top of the Mountain East Conference and third overall at the GMAC/MEC Championships after day one on Wednesday.
Senior Nate Canapp secured the highest finish in the finals for Frostburg, taking second in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 9:39.16, for the best swim in the MEC. Freshman Bradin Norris finished sixth in the event with a swim of 9:56.72 for the third best finish in program history, while sophomore Jack Bond placed ninth in the event with a 10:18.41 time seeing sixth best all-time.
Sophomore Dylan King led the Bobcats in the 200-yard IM with a swim of 1:54.65, breaking his own all-time record, while in the 50-yard free sophomore Tory Reynolds showed a 21.68 leading FSU to a 12th place finish, and sophomore Abe Bias placed 17th with a 21.93 swim for the best in the C Final.
The 200-yard medley team of King, Reynolds, senior Tave Chanthavong, and sophomore Josh Stokes set the new program record, clocking a 1:34.03 for a fourth place finish in the event, while Bias, Reynolds, and seniors Mikkel LeBlanc and Jaden Tipton worked for a third place finish in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:26.92 for fourth best in school history.
The championships continue into today for Day Two of competition, with more information being found at Championship Central.
