Men's Swimming Uses Handful of Top-Three Marks to Round Out Regular Season with Assertive Win
FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team finished their regular season with a dominant home win over Salem on Friday afternoon with a final score of 178-62.
The 200-meter medley relay team of senior Tave Chanthavong and sophomores Josh Stokes, Dylan King, and Tory Reynolds opened up the day for Frostburg with a first-place swim of 1:47.93. Chanthavong went on to see first in the 100-meter breast with a time of 1:09.98, while next up was senior Nate Canapp seeing wins in the 800-meter free (8:47.09) and 400-meter free (4:12.91).
Continuing the success in the individual events for FSU were King and freshman Bradin Norris, with the former taking the 100-meter free with a 47.44 swim, and the latter winning the 200-meter back with a 2:13.06 swim. Freshman Nathan Schwarz racked up a second-place spot with a time of 2:02.84 in the 200-meter free, while freshman Dylan Dela-Vega snuck in right behind him in third with a 2:09.49 time.
The Bobcats put up a trio of 1-2-3 punches to round out the day, starting with the 100-meter back with Stokes (1:01.22), junior Josh Horner (1:02.97), and sophomore Isaac Cummings (1:09.54) falling in the top three. Reynolds (24.31), senior Jaden Tipton (25.92), and senior Mikkel LeBlanc (26.59) filled out 1-2-3 in the 50-meter free, while King (1:00.09), junior Andrew Wetherhold (1:03.71), and Stokes (1:07.57) rounded out the top three in the 100-meter fly.
Horner, King, Norris, and Canapp led the way in the 800-meter free relay with a finish of 8:09.06, while the team of graduate PJ Emrich, Tipton, junior Alex Whitton and sophomore Jack Bond swam an 8:24.05 for second place.
With the win, Frostburg concludes the regular season 5-3, while Salem drops to 2-3. The Bobcats next gear up for the GMAC/MEC Championships that begin on Wednesday, February 12 in Canton, Ohio. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
