Men's Swimming Takes Second Overall, Tops in MEC at Conference Championships
CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Swim team concluded their outstanding week with an MEC Championship, finishing second overall and tops in the conference for their second-straight Mountain East title.
Capping off a string of great individual performances, junior Nate Canapp came runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle at 15:59.32 in yet another First Team All-MEC honor. Freshman Jack Bond had his best finish of the meet, taking fourth overall and earning Second Team with a 16:26.51, which is also the second-best time in school history. Sophomore Alex Whitton set a new personal record by nearly 12 seconds, as he moved into fifth all-time at 17:01.84.
In the 100-yard free, sophomore Julian Najarro Sedar placed sixth overall and second in the MEC with a 46.21 that also set a new program high. Senior Jackson Miller then put forth an Honorable Mention in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:57.62, taking sixth overall. Also in the event, sophomore Josh Horner swam a 1:59.95 for fourth in program history.
Junior Luka Smith placed sixth overall in the 200-yard breaststroke, surging past his personal best with a 2:06.93 that stands second all-time in school history. Senior PJ Emrich earned eighth overall, while during the preliminaries he set a PR of 2:10.03 for fourth all-time.
The men concluded the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard free relay, taking First Team All-MEC with Najarro Sedar, freshman Dylan King, senior Noah Loper, and Miller earning a 3:06.78 for second in the Bobcat record books.
Frostburg finished with 1,303 total points, coming second overall behind national powerhouse Findlay, while beating out Ashland from the GMAC and the second-best MEC team in Fairmont State. It was the team's best-ever finish at the championships.
