Horner Sets Backstroke Record, Canapp, 800 Free Relay Take First Team All-MEC
CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Swim team maintained their standing in the GMAC/MEC Championships after day three of events, holding third overall and tops in the Mountain East.
Senior Nate Canapp had the top finish for the Bobcats on the day in the first event, placing second (4:38.94) overall and first in the MEC for the 500 free, while sophomore Jack Bond (4:57.88) finished eighth overall with Honorable Mention All-MEC honors.
In the 100 back, junior Josh Horner won the B final, setting a new program record at 52.37 while securing Honorable Mention All-MEC, surpassing former standout Anthony Giusepetti's 2021 mark. Also in the event, sophomore Josh Stokes (53.13) and freshman Nate Schwarz (56.61) put up the third- and ninth-best times in school history.
The 100 breast featured more additions to the record books, as junior Andrew Wetherhold (59.30) moved into fifth all-time, while senior Tave Chanthavong (59.37) put himself seventh. Sophomore Dylan King took foruth overall and First Team All-MEC in the 200 fly at 1:54.19, improving upon his second all-time standing, while freshman Bradin Norris finished eighth overall in earning Honorable Mention All-MEC at 1:58.77, putting him fourth in FSU history.
Rounding out the third day in the 800 free relay, the team of Norris, Canapp, sophomore Abe Bias, and senior Jaden Tipton came third overall and first among MEC schools with the program's second-fastest time at 7:01.32.
Headed into the final day of competition, the Bobcats remain firmly in third overall at 821 points, with Findlay (1,333) holding the top spot, followed by Ashland (1,118) in second and far ahead of Fairmont State (489) in fourth.
