Golden Eagles Take Down Men's Tennis in MEC Tournament Semifinals

The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team lost 5-0 to Charleston in their first-ever appearance in the MEC Tournament on Saturday.

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team lost 5-0 to Charleston in their first-ever appearance in the MEC Tournament on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles took a quick 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles, then despite a strong fight from sophomores Cole Alcala and German Diaz, couldn't pull off the win at No. 1 in a 7-5 decision to give UC the doubles point. With the point already in hand, freshmen Peter Barun and Viktor Boban had their match suspended, battling back to a 4-5 score having trailed early on.

Charleston swept through singles play, with straight-set wins at each of the top four spots to earn enough points to win 5-0. Alcala (6-4, 6-2), Barun (6-3, 6-3), and Boban (6-2, 6-3) each took multiple games in both of their sets. As the meet had been decided, freshman Field Myatt (6-7, 2-3) and sophomore Noah Fisher (1-0) each saw their matches incomplete.

With the loss, Frostburg ends their campaign at 7-12, while Charleston improves to 16-2 and advances to Sunday's Championship match.
