Men's Tennis Picks Up Win Over West Chester to Conclude Regular Season
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team ended their regular season with a 5-2 win over West Chester on the road Sunday afternoon.
Frostburg picked up two victories in doubles competition, with the sophomore duo of Cole Alcala and German Diaz getting doubles play started with a 6-2 win at No. 1. Sophomore Noah Fisher and freshman Field Myatt knotted the other doubles point of the day for FSU, taking down their opponent in the No. 3 match by a final of 6-3. The team of freshman Peter Barun and senior Del Carden fell 3-6 in their match in the No. 2 hole.
Alcala started off singles play with a 6-0, 7-5 victory in No. 1 singles, with Diaz slicing a dominate 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2. Barun took No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 score, while in No. 5 singles Fisher came out on top 7-6, 6-4. Myatt put up a fight in his singles match falling in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 1-6 in the No. 5 slot, as sophomore Jason Haley dropped No. 6 singles 1-6, 4-6.
With the win, FSU concludes their regular season with a record of 7-11, while West Chester finishes 2-14. The Bobcats will wait to see if they make the MEC Tournament beginning on Saturday, May 4 after all conference teams wrap up their regular season.
