Men's Tennis Secures First Conference Win at Home Against West Virginia State

The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team earned their first conference win of the season, taking down West Virginia State in a close 4-3 decision.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team earned their first conference win of the season, taking down West Virginia State in a close 4-3 decision.
 
Sophomores German Diaz and Cole Alcala secured a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while freshman Peter Barun and senior Del Carden had the same result at the second spot, and freshman Field Myatt and junior Matt Bolen completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory as the Bobcats took the doubles point.
 
Alcala (6-4, 6-2) and Diaz (6-1, 6-2) both earned straight-set sweeps at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, to put FSU within a point of winning the meet. WVSU battled back, earning wins and the three through five spots, with junior Matt Bolen coming up just shy in a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 loss as the fifth single. Sophomore Noah Fisher came up clutch at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-0 win to seal his match and the 4-3 victory.
 
With the win, Frostburg improves to 4-8 overall, while West Virginia State drops to 3-8. The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, April 16 as they remain at home to face nationally ranked Charleston (WV) at 4 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
