Alcala and Ramos Sweep Weekly MEC Tennis Awards

Sophomore Cole Alcala and junior Julia Ramos were both named MEC Tennis Players of the Week, both going a perfect six-for-six in their three matches over the week.  This award was announced by the league office on Monday and is presented by The Health Plan.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore Cole Alcala and junior Julia Ramos were both named MEC Tennis Players of the Week, both going a perfect six-for-six in their three matches over the week.  This award was announced by the league office on Monday and is presented by The Health Plan. 
 
Against Salem, Alcala and his partner German Diaz took the 6-4 win in No. 1 doubles, with Alcala collecting the hard fought 5-7, 7-5, 10-6 win in No. 1 singles, leading to the team's 5-2 overall victory.  In Frostburg's 4-3 loss to Davis & Elkins, Alcala and Diaz went for a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 hole, while Acala dominated in No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win.  Alcala then helped lead the Bobcats to a 5-2 win over West Chester, with him and Diaz knotting a 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles slot, prior to coming out on top of a 6-0, 7-5 No. 1 singles match. 
 
Ramos, leading the Bobcats to a three win week to round out the regular season, captured three straight doubles victories in the No. 2 slot with partner Lorena Pintar, with the duo earning wins of 6-3, 6-1, and 6-0.  Ramos started singles competition with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over West Virginia State in the No. 2 match, helping lead to a dominate 6-1 overall team win against the Yellow Jackets.  In Frostburg's 5-2 victory over D&E, Ramos went for a 6-1, 6-2 final in the No. 2 spot, while going for a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 2 hole, once again, in FSU's 5-2 win over WCU.
