Burks, Turner Set Men's Track & Field Records in Season Opener

The Frostburg State men's track & field team kicked of the indoor season with competitors at Youngstown State Icebreaker, Marietta First Glimpse and the Mike Kowal Multi over the weekend.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Frostburg State men's track & field team kicked of the indoor season with competitors at Youngstown State Icebreaker, Marietta First Glimpse and the Mike Kowal Multi over the weekend.
 
At Youngstown, the Bobcats turned in four top-10 results, with freshman Ka'Von Turner setting a pair of FSU records, earning eighth place in the 200 meters with a time of 58.31 before running a 6.91 in the 60 meters. FSU's 4x400 group of Turner, freshman Logan Haines, junior Paul James III and senior Nathaniel Mesy ran a 3:21.47, the 10th-fastest time of the meet. In the distance events, freshman Gage Osborne was ninth in the 800 meters (1:57.66), setting a new personal record, and then tenth in the mile at 4:30.38, while juniors Austin Comeaux (15:56.37) and Caden Jones (16:01.51) each set PR's in the 5,000 meters. 
 
The field members of the Bobcat team headed to Marietta for the First Glimpse event. FSU had three top five results on the day, with freshman Ben Treat taking second in the shotput with a distance of 14.79 meters, the ninth-farthest in program history. Sophomore Bryson Harvey also had a runner-up finish with an 11.01 in the triple jump, while senior Rondell Carlton came in fifth in the long jump at 6.27 meters. 
 
Rounding out the weekend, the Mike Kowal Multi ran over both Saturday and Sunday in Edinboro. A triot of top-five program results in the heptathlon, as junior Marquise Burks (4800 points) took first place overall with a new school record, sophomore Mason Reed (4310 points) was third with a 528 improvement on his third-place program spot, and freshman RJ Eubanks had the fifth-best ever mark at 3627 points. Burks hit the NCAA D2 provisional mark, taking first in the pole vault (3.64m), 60 meter hurdles (8.68), high jump (1.88m) and the shotput (12.61m).
