Mesy Wins 400, Distance Medley Relay Sets Record at Youngstown Mid-Major Invite

The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team competed at the Youngstown Mid-Major Invitational over the course of Friday and Saturday, turning in a number of personal records during the meet.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team competed at the Youngstown Mid-Major Invitational over the course of Friday and Saturday, turning in a number of personal records during the meet.
 
Senior Nate Mesy had the top finish of the day, winning the 400 meters in 48.67 from a field that consisted of athletes from all NCAA divisions. He was also a part of the distance medley relay team that finished in third place and a set a school record. Senior Justus LePrevost and freshmen Jack Hynes and Gage Osborne joined Mesy in putting up a time of 10:13.99, breaking the previous mark that had been held since 2006.
 
Hynes was a member of the fifth-place 4x400 relay team that also featured junior Marquise Burks and freshmen Brendan Kline and Isayah Stewart, turning in a 3:27.04. Stewart and Kline ran with the team of junior Paul James III and freshman Ryan Connelly to place fifth in the DMR behind their aforementioned compatriots.
 
Amongst other top individual finishers, freshman Nathaniel Shields matched his career-best with a long jump of 7.37m, placing third overall as the top Division II finisher. Connelly raced in the mile for the first time in the indoor season, as his 4:18.66 was good enough for second overall and equally best among DII runners.
 
Freshman Ka'Von Turner had himself a busy couple of days, placing in the top five for both the 60 meters (6.96) and the 200 (22.14), being the second-fastest Division II athlete in each, while also turning in a personal best in the long jump at 6.39m. In the heptathlon, sophomore Mason Reed got himself into third place after the final event, amassing 4,162 points, while winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.85 and coming third in the pole vault at 3.45m.
 
In addition to the top places, FSU had several athletes set personal high marks, of which are listed below by event and athlete. The Bobcats will return to action on Saturday, February 10 to take part in the Spire Collegiate Indoor Games in Geneva, Ohio. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
