Emrich, Hooper Lead Women's Swimming to Two-Day Win at Vulcan Invitational
CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Swim team won both days of the Vulcan Invitational, besting the hosts, Bethany, and Salem (WV) in the four-team competition.
FSU began day one with a second-place finish in the 200-yard free relay, as the team of freshmen Madison Hooper and Genna Rippeon joined seniors Kendall Hooper and Lydia Nebiolo for a 1:43.07. Frostburg's second relay team also came runners-up, with Nebiolo, senior Natasha Paciello, junior Gabriela Betancourt, and sophomore Alexis Ramsey putting up a 4:16.42 in the 400 medley.
Freshman Taylor Emrich had one of the top individual days, securing a pair of victories in the 500 free (5:23.82) and the 200 fly (2:21.96). The Bobcats took a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 back, as Nebiolo led the way at 2:14.37, followed by sophomore Jayme Meadows (2:17.21) and freshman Kay Buhrman (2:18.58). Kendall Hooper had the final win of the day, taking the 50 free in 26.03.
As the final results were calculated, FSU finished with 228 points for first place, just beating out Cal's 222.5.
The second day of competition featured the Bobcats' lone relay victory, as Betancourt, Paciello, and both Hoopers secured a 1:52.15 in the 200 medley. The elder Hooper went on to pick up another couple first places in the 100 fly (59.67) and the 200 IM (2:17.39).
Emrich also impressed with a win in the 1,650 free (18:58.01), good enough for 10th in program history, before placing second (1:03.62) behind Betancourt (1:01.73) in the 100 back. Paciello rounded out the meet by taking the 200 breast in 2:35.66.
