Men's Wrestling Sees Trio of Individual Wins in Home Loss to #2 Glenville
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Wrestling team fell to the No. 2 ranked Pioneers from Glenville State at home on Wednesday evening by a final score of 35-14.
After meeting in the Mountain East Conference Championships over a week ago, where Glenville finished first in the conference and Frostburg took third, the teams faced off in their first dual meeting of the season.
The Bobcats fell behind early after dropping the opening match, before senior Thierno Diallo, who is currently ranked fourth in the country by The Open Mat, picked up a win at 133 with decision, keeping his unbeaten record on the season.
FSU would drop the next three weight classes before tightening up the dual with the Pioneers. After falling to Wiley Houser in the championship match at MEC's, sophomore Mason Buckler came up with a big pin in 1:41. Graduate Owen Butler, ranked 13th by The Open Mat, kept the momentum on the side of the Bobcats, winning the 174 match by tech fall to pull the dual at a score of 19-14 in favor of GSU.
The Pioneers shut down the chance of a comeback from Frostburg, taking the last two matches of the dual to come out on top 35-14.
The loss takes Frostburg to 9-4 in duals on the season, while Glenville improves to 17-6. The Bobcats will be back on the mat Sunday, February 16 when they travel to face off against Davis & Elkins for a 1 PM start. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
