Men's Wrestling Rolls Over Cardinals in Home Opener
FROSTBURG. Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Wrestling team took their home opener over Wheeling on Wednesday night by a final score of 41-8.
Freshman Nate Wilhelm fell just shy in his match with a 13-10 decision in the 125 lb weight class, before fellow freshman Amir Wray-Hill secured the first points of the day for Frostburg, taking down his opponent in 133 with a 13-4 major decision. Redshirt junior Dylan Montgomery picked up the forfeit in 141, bringing the total score to 10-3, before graduate Alex Blake (149) and sophomore Mason Buckler (157) racked up back-to-back pins to get the crowd going and see the overall score at 22-3.
In the 165 weight class, redshirt sophomore Noah Reho received the win with a dominant 17-2 tech fall, before graduate Owen Bulter also took home a tech fall, with a quick victory of 17-0 in the 174 lb weight class to put the score at 32-3. Freshmen Andrew Wolfanger (184) and Alex Hoy (197) finished out the day adding two more wins to FSU's overall score, with the former declaring an 11-4 decision and the latter taking the final pinfall of the meet. Wheeling stole one more match over the Bobcats to end the night, as sophomore Gavin Bage fell in the 285 contest by tech fall to bring the final score to 41-8.
With a win in their first dual match of the season, Frostburg starts 1-0 while Wheeling begins their season 0-1. The Bobcats go on the road for their next match, facing another MEC foe in Fairmont State, as well as Kutztown, for a tri-meet on Sunday, November 17 at 2 PM.
