Castejon, Troxell, Pintar Rack Up Wins in Singles Play as Women's Tennis Falls to Wesleyan
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team fell just shy in their road match with West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday afternoon, dropping the contest by a close score of 4-3.
Wesleyan swept the doubles competition with senior Lorena Pintar and junior Alyssa Kush fighting to a 6-4 score in the No. 1 spot, while sophomores Ella Troxell and Patricia Castejon and seniors Taylor Smith and Femke Hofkamp fell 6-1 in both the two and three slots.
Castejon picked up the first win of the day for Frostburg in No. 2 singles, going for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win. Troxell defeated her opponent in the No. 3 hole 7-5, 6-3, while Pintar followed in the fourth match with a 6-7, 6-1, 10-6 victory. Kush took the No. 1 singles match on the day to three sets, falling 2-6, 6-4, 6-7, while Hofkamp showed a 3-6, 4-6 effort in the five spot.
With the loss, Frostburg drops to 6-8 on the season, while West Virgina Wesleyan goes to 6-10. The Bobcats next host West Chester to start their final two matches of the season, facing the Golden Rams at home on Wednesday, April 16 at 2 PM.
