Alcala Takes Win at #1 Singles in Men's Tennis Loss to Lakers
ERIE, Pa. – The Frostburg State Men's Tennis team concluded their weekend with a 6-1 loss to Mercyhurst on Sunday night.
MU began the meet with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, before the FSU pairing of freshman Peter Barun and senior Del Carden were victorious by the same score at the No. 2 spot. A 6-4 Laker win at No. 3 doubles gave them the point to start the match in the lead.
The Lakers were on the front foot through almost the entirety of singles play, winning five of the six matches on their way to the 6-1 meet win. Sophomores German Diaz (3-6, 3-6) and Noah Fisher (4-6, 2-6) were each able to take multiple games in their straight-set losses. Their classmate Cole Alcala ended the night on a high note, winning a back-and-forth affair at the top singles spot 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 2-3 on the year, while Mercyhurst improves to 5-1. The Bobcats return to the court on Saturday, March 9 for a road match against Bloomsburg at 4 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
