Fairmont Takes Team Event to Secure Narrow Victory Over Acrobatics & Tumbling

In a battle of the two unbeaten acrobatics & tumbling teams atop the MEC, Fairmont State came out just ahead of Frostburg State 264.415-264.390.

FROSTBURG, Md. – In a battle of the two unbeaten acrobatics & tumbling teams atop the MEC, Fairmont State came out just ahead of Frostburg State 264.415-264.390.

During the meet, Frostburg honored its eight seniors in Navah Marierose, Kaitlin Bolton, Abbie Baker, Alexis Palmieri, Laiken Spahr, Sydney Green, Shelby Recktenwald, and Jordanne Hensley, who are each completing their Bobcat careers.

The Bobcats got out to a strong start, winning each heat in the Compulsory event to come out with a 37.90-37.25 lead. Frostburg earned high marks in the Pyramid (9.90), Toss (9.75), and Acro (9.60) heats, while finishing just ahead in the Tumbling.

In the Acro event, the Bobcats maintained their advantage, once again taking each heat en route to a 28.85-28.30 event victory. Both sides scored at least a 9.30 in each of their heats, but Frostburg secured the highest score with a 9.80 in the 7-Element.

Fairmont finally got their first event win of the day in the Pyramid, narrowly coming out ahead 29.05-28.95 despite only winning one of the heats. The Bobcats scored wins in both the Synch (9.85) and Inversion (9.70) heats, but the Falcons' 9.85 in the open heat was enough to take the victory. Despite the event loss, Frostburg still held a 95.70-94.60 lead at the half.

Coming out of halftime, Fairmont secured another event win in the toss, taking both the Synch and Open heats, with the latter being the highest for either heat at 9.55. The Bobcats also scored highest in the Open at 9.35, also putting up a 9.20 in the 450 Salto, but narrowly lost 27.25-27.15.

Having dropped two straight events, Frostburg was determined not to let it happen in the Tumbling event, where they rolled to a 54.55-52.875 victory. Each of the individual passes for the Bobcats scored at least 9.40, which was put up by seniors Sydney Green and Laiken Spahr in the Aerial and 6-Element passes, respectively. Senior Abbie Baker surpassed all by earning a near-perfect 9.95 in the Open pass to help push the win.

Entering the team event, Frostburg held a 177.40-174.725 advantage with a chance to secure the win. In the narrowest of margins, Fairmont scored an 89.690 to Frostburg's 86.990, eking out a 264.415-264.390 victory.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 4-2 on the year, while Fairmont improves to 5-1. The Bobcats will return to the mat on Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. to face West Virginia State on the road. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
