MEC A&T Tournament Semifinal Preview: #3 Frostburg State vs #2 Glenville State

The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team will face off with Glenville State in the MEC Semifinals on Friday for the third consecutive year, as the Pioneers represent the No. 2 seed and the Bobcats hold the No. 3 seed.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team will face off with Glenville State in the MEC Semifinals on Friday for the third consecutive year, as the Pioneers represent the No. 2 seed and the Bobcats hold the No. 3 seed.

How They Got Here
Coming into the 2025 season as back-to-back MEC Tournament Champions, Frostburg currently holds an overall record of 4-5, sitting with a 4-2 record in conference.  FSU swept their MEC and season opener in February, defeating both Kutztown and West Virginia State in a tri-meet, as they have also taken contests over Wheeling and West Liberty. The victory over the Hilltoppers secured the three seed and took WLU out of tournament contention.

Glenville has taken their program to a new level this season, showing a 7-2 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the MEC, setting program records for wins in each category. The Pioneers have been ranked 13th each of the updated NCATA National Rankings, with their only two losses coming against No. 5 Fairmont State and No. 11 Gannon.  This is the first time GSU has been nationally ranked since the 2019 season.

The Matchup
The Bobcats hold the all-time advantage over Glenville with a record of 5-2, defeating the Pioneers in each of the last two tournament semifinals.  Frostburg had won five straight meets against GSU until the Pioneers took this year's meeting by a final score of 240.315-237.540. It was Glenville's first victory over FSU since their first-ever meeting in 2021, the Bobcats' inaugural season.

The Athletes
Frostburg is powered by three First Team All-MEC selections in senior base/top/tumbler Nia Ivanov, senior top Meghan Dunster, and junior base Isabella Mongelluzzo. Dunster received the Bobcats' lone MEC Athlete of the Week honor after her strong performance against West Liberty in the season finale, while Mongelluzzo was also named Specialist of the Week from the meet. Joining them in year-end accolades were junior base Callie Miller and sophomore top/tumbler Julia Welch each receiving Second Team honors.

The Pioneers also feature a trio of First Team selections, including the MEC Specialist of the Year in base Payten Semenske, as well as top/tumbler Savannah Duckworth and top/base/tumbler Megan Bankes. On the Second Team was base/tumbler Emilia Underwood, while GSU also featured the Freshman of the Year in base/tumbler Aubrey Ward.

The Rest of the Field
No. 1 seed of Fairmont State hosts the MEC Championships for the second consecutive year, being matched with the No. 4 seed of Kutztown in the other semifinal matchup, as the winner of each will compete in the Championship Meet on Saturday. The championship will be preceded by the MEC Event Finals, of which Frostburg has qualified for seven individual heats.
