Johnson Sets Top 10 Mark, Mastria, Boards Earn Top-5 Finishes at Spire Invite
GENEVA, Ohio – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team took part in the Spire Midwest Invitational on Saturday with a number of personal bests set.
Sophomore Bella Mastria and junior Valerie Boards secured FSU's top finishes on the day, the former earning fourth in the long jump (5.47m), tying her personal best, while the latter came fifth overall in the 200m (25.64) and sixth in the 60m (7.91). Also in the sprints, freshman Gwen Bates set a pair of personal bests in the 200m (32.70) and the 400m (1:13.54), while Mastria set another in the 60m hurdles at 9.83.
In the throwing events, freshman Sydney Johnson put her name into the record books with the eighth-best weight throw in program history (13.10m), which was also the second-best mark among Division II athletes. Senior Tia Moye also set a PR in the event at 8.36m.
Closing out the meet in the distance events, three Bobcats set personal highs in the mile, led by sophomore Emily Wishart (5:16.78) and followed by classmate Paige Etnoyer (5:23.78) and freshman Keira Taylor (5:43.47), who also set a PR in the 800m (2:36.70).
Frostburg next will head back to Youngstown State for the Mid-Major Invitational from Friday, January 31 to Saturday, February 1. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
