#2 Golden Eagles Net Four in Win Over Men's Soccer

The Frostburg State men's soccer team dropped their road trip to Charleston by a 4-0 final on Wednesday.

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team dropped their road trip to Charleston by a 4-0 final on Wednesday.

Frostburg entered the game riding a two-match winning streak in Mountain East Conference play, but faced a tough challenge against the nation's second-ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Earlier this season, FSU played the Golden Eagles to a scoreless draw at Bobcat Stadium, their first-ever point against UC.

Charleston came out attacking from the opening whistle, earning an early corner and taking a shot within the first three minutes of play. Sophomore goalkeeper Jan Foret stopped the next two attempts from the Golden Eagles, but UC eventually broke through with a low shot to the right side to take a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats defended with numbers and countered when possible, with sophomores Mason Salvadge and Andrew Denard each recording shots on goal. Foret made six saves in the half to keep the score at 1-0.

Trailing by a goal, FSU looked for an equalizer to start the second half, but weren't able to generate any chances early on. Charleston had a pair of shots go over the bar before Foret tipped a ball over to keep the deficit at one. The Bobcats' task became more difficult after going down a man, with back-to-back yellow cards four minutes apart putting them at 10 for the final half hour. The Golden Eagles netted their insurance goal 15 minutes into the half, as Frostburg found it difficult to get out of their own half. Continuing to fire away efforts, UC netted twice 10 minutes apart while holding FSU without a shot the rest of the way for the 4-0 final.

Charleston finished with 11 shots on goal compared to Frostburg's two, as Foret ended the match with seven saves.

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 5-7-2 overall, while Charleston improves to 11-0-3. FSU will host Point Park on Sunday, October 26 for Senior Day at 4 p.m. For more information, visit frostburgsports.com.
