Stare, Foret Lead Men's Soccer to Road Draw with Tigers

The Frostburg State men's soccer came away from their road match against Salem (WV) with a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.

SALEM, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's soccer came away from their road match against Salem (WV) with a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.

In the first half the Bobcats would apply the pressure early taking a couple of shots on goal in the first ten minutes, with sophomore Mason Salvadge and senior Jason Guevara both denied by keeper Jason Barrientos. Each side fired a shot over the bar before the opening goal for FSU came from freshman Frank Stare on a left footed blast near the top corner for his first collegiate goal. Frostburg was able to keep SU at bay for the remainder of the half, as Guevara was again thwarted just before time expired for the one-goal halftime lead.

The second half looked like a different game for the Tigers, as after FSU took two early shots, the hosts got a free kick which went off the fingertips of sophomore Jan Foret and in for a 1-1 score. With the game tied, both sides had chances to take the lead, but each keeper traded saves midway through the half. Taking control, Salem forced Foret into four saves within a four-minute span, while freshman Nate Kennedy was stopped at the other end. The Tigers produced chance after chance in the final 10 minutes, but Foret was equal to the task, making a trio of saves to preserve the 1-1 draw.

With the result, FSU moves to 1-1-1 on the year and Salem is now 1-1-2 overall. The Bobcats return home to face West Liberty at 7 PM on Wednesday, September 17. For more information visit frostburgsports.com
