Second Half Offense Leads Davenport to Win Over Women's Rugby

The Frostburg State women's rugby team dropped a home match to Davenport on Saturday morning in a 63-18 contest.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's rugby team dropped a home match to Davenport on Saturday morning in a 63-18 contest.

Frostburg got on the board first with a penalty kick by sophomore Natalie Allen, giving the Bobcats an early 3-0 lead. The Panthers responded four minutes later with a try to take a 5-3 lead. Scoring was tight early on, with the next points coming midway through the first half when Davenport added a second try to go up 10-3.

Frostburg answered with its first try of the game, as sophomore MK Wilmot brought the Bobcats within two, making it 10-8. Both teams added another try before halftime, including a late effort by senior Liberty Cawthorn to narrow the deficit to 17-13 in favor of Davenport.

The second half told a different story, as the Panthers came out strong, scoring four straight tries to extend their lead to 39-13. Sophomore Scout Spandoni's try broke the run with Frostburg's only points of the half. Davenport closed out the match with four more tries, sealing their 63-18 victory.

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-3 on the season while DU improves to 2-5. Frostburg will host West Chester on Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m. for its Cancer Awareness Game. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com.
