Osborne Impresses, McCoy Wins Pole Vault for Men's Track & Field at Spire Open
GENEVA, Ohio – Senior Tom McCoy secured a first-place finish for the Men's Track & Field team in the Elite Pole Vault at the Spire Collegiate Midwest Invite on Saturday.
In a day of competition that featured teams from all three NCAA Divisions, McCoy secured the top mark in the pole vault high division at 4.85m. In the intermediate level, junior Ryan Schlauch (3.80m) and freshman Morgon Corwine (3.65m) each set personal bests for the event.
Sophomore Gage Osborne led the way for FSU in the distance events, earning fourth place in the 800m at 1:56.99, which set a new personal record and was the top mark among Division II athletes. He also had a top 10 finish in the mile, setting another PR in 4:21.40 as the third-best D2 time. In the former event, sophomore Nathan Hillhouse set his own personal high at 2:16.46. The 3K had a pair of PR's set for sophomore Ray Gibson (9:16.92) and junior Logan Folmer (10:22.79), while freshman Ben Saltysiak did the same in the 5K (16:13.44), surpassing his previous best by over 20 seconds.
During the sprints, freshman Cohen Arbogast had an outstanding day with a couple of personal bests in the 200m (22.72) and the 400m (51.03), finishing as the top Division II athlete in the latter event. Freshman Mason Worley joined in on the action with a 23.23 PR in the 200.
Rounding out the meet in the throws, a whopping three Bobcats set personal highs during the shot put in sophomore Tyler McGraw (12.28m), redshirt sophomore Aubrey Russ (11.92m), and junior Scott Haste (11.45m). McGraw also set a PR in the weight throw (12.72m), as did freshman Willie Washington (13.44m).
Frostburg next will head back to Youngstown State for the Mid-Major Invitational from Friday, January 31 to Saturday, February 1. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
