Bauer Named MEC Pitcher of the Year, Baseball Lands Seven on All-Conference Teams

Frostburg State Baseball senior Patrick Bauer caps off his Bobcat career being named MEC Pitcher of the Year, as the league announced their All-Conference awards and honors on Tuesday with Frostburg seeing seven placed throughout the All-MEC teams.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Frostburg State Baseball senior Patrick Bauer caps off his Bobcat career being named MEC Pitcher of the Year, as the league announced their All-Conference awards and honors on Tuesday with Frostburg seeing seven placed throughout the All-MEC teams.
 
The solid righty was also given First Team All-MEC honors, leading the conference in wins (9), ERA, and strikeouts (85), while his 1.82 ERA is currently eighth best in all of Division II.  Bauer threw 59.1 innings during the regular season, seeing two compete games, a WHIP of .98, and an opposing batting average of .216.  The starter gave up just 11 walks and 12 earned runs in his 11 appearances, helping him to an overall record of 9-1.  Bauer was named MEC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week both twice in 2025, securing double-digit strikeouts in three games throughout the regular season.
 
Senior Mikey Guy and sophomore Jackson Schalick were also placed on the All-MEC First Team, representing the Bobcats at the plate.  Guy, playing third base for FSU all season, leads the team and conference in hits (67) for a team-high in RBI (50), while batting a solid .381 on the year.  He put up 35 runs during the regular season as well as four home runs and three triples, while also a team-high in doubles with 14.  Schalick, one of Frostburg's main outfielders, receives his first ever All-Conference honor, having had a solid second season with the Bobcats scoring a team-high 43 runs, while coming in second on the team in hits (47) for a .311 batting average.  Schalick has roped out 10 doubles, six home runs, and 34 RBI on the year so far.  Joining Bauer on the First Team is sophomore starter Jack Ray, another strong arm for Frostburg, as he earns his first All-Conference selection as well.  Ray shows a 4-2 record on the season with a 2.66 ERA, throwing 47.1 innings to go for 50 K's and just 14 earned runs and a .249 batting average.
 
FSU had another trio of players named to the All-MEC Second Team, starting with junior Jake Holler.  In his first year with the Bobcats, Holler saw most of his time in the designated hitter spot, leading the team in batting average at .402, while ripping 39 hits in 37 games.  He holds 34 runs and 27 RBI to go along with seven doubles, four home runs, and a team-high .619 slugging percentage.  Senior Jacob McDonald, another starting pitcher for Frostburg, received Second Team All-MEC honors, seeing a 6-3 record on the season, as well as one complete game and a save.  The righty sits with a 3.96 ERA in 52.1 innings while striking out 52 for the second most K's on the team.  Rounding out the pitching for FSU is redshirt senior Nate Vermillion, who was also placed on the Second Team, serving as the Bobcats main relief pitcher in 2025.  The closer showed a 1.80 ERA in 17 appearances, throwing 20 innings for 20 strikeouts, a .213 opposing batting average, and a team-high seven saves.
 
Finishing out the All-Conference awards for Frostburg is redshirt junior Ben Wieman, who was given All-MEC Honorable Mention as utility, knocking 19 hits and a team-high seven bombs in 36 games, while scoring 24 runs and collecting 27 RBI.
