Burks, McCoy Secure Victories for Men's Track & Field in 7th-Place Finish at Messiah

The Frostburg State Men's Track and Field team took part in the three-day Messiah Multis and Invitational from Thursday until Saturday, placing seventh overall at the meet.

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Frostburg State Men's Track and Field team took part in the three-day Messiah Multis and Invitational from Thursday until Saturday, placing seventh overall at the meet.
 
Senior Marquise Burks started the meet by winning the Decathlon with 6,043 points, as he took victories in the pole vault (3.95m), discus (35.79m), high jump (1.82m), shot put (11.99m), 100m (11.77), and the long jump (6.47m), setting a new personal record in the latter event. Freshman Morgon Corwine placed fifth overall at 4,580 points, as he was victorious in the 1,500m (4:41.23) and the 400m (54.19), while tying for second in the pole vault with a PR 3.85m.
 
Sophomore Jack Hynes and freshman Matteo Mosby had FSU's top finishes in the sprints, the former coming fifth in the 400m at 50.31, while the latter matched in the 400m hurdles in 58.74, setting a new personal record. Additionally, freshmen Dorian Grubb (12.35) and Mason Worley (23.06) each set personal bests in the 100m and 200m, respectively.
 
The distance events featured a multitude of new personal marks set for the Bobcats, as sophomore Gage Osborne (10:20.03) and junior Brandon Stein (10:29.16) each impressed in the 3K steeplechase, finishing second and fourth, respectively with their new top times. In the 800m, sophomore Jaxon Jones placed fourth overall in 1:58.75, one place ahead of classmates Isayah Stewart (2:00.09) in fifth and Ray Gibson (2:04.29) setting a new personal best. The 1,500m featured a trio of PR's, led by Gibson's 4:15.10 and followed by sophomores Matthew Brennan (4:27.10) and Nathan Hillhouse (4:41.89). Freshman Ben Saltysiak led the 10K with a fifth-place finish and personal high 33:17.19, with senior Austin Comeaux one spot behind in 33:22.16, while Stein (33:46.39) and freshman Ethan McKee (34:48.80) each set PR's.
 
In the field events, FSU impressed during the pole vault, as senior Tom McCoy secured the meet win at 4.77m, with junior Ryan Schlauch (3.87m) and freshman Adeeb Pender (3.72m) setting new personal records. On the throwers' side, sophomore Dalton Kasekamp led the way with a pair of top-10 finishes in the discus (39.86m) and the shot put (13.30m), while freshman Jacob Blankenship set a personal best in the former event at 37.34m.
 
Frostburg next will travel to Baltimore, Md. to take part in the Hopkins/Loyola Invite from Friday, April 18 until Saturday, April 19. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
