Butler, Bage Lead Men's Wrestling to Fourth Place Finish at Glenville Invite
GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Wrestling team secured a fourth place finish in their opening meet of the season at the Glenville State Invite on Saturday.
Frostburg had a trio of wrestlers see competition in the 125 lbs weight class, with freshman Amir Wray-Hill taking three out of his five matches, with a pin fall, major decision, and decision, reaching 4.5 total points. Freshman Nate Wilhelm picked up two wins off a tech fall and a pinfall, earning 5.5 points, while freshman Rocky Alabbadi received a bye and won a match by major decision for two points. Redshirt freshman Garhett Dickenson was the lone Bobcat to compete in the 133 lbs weight class, earning a bye and taking a match by decision.
Freshmen Chase Bell, Hunter Forcellini, and Stephen Stottlemyer, along with redshirt junior Dylan Montgomery competed in the 141 lbs weight class, with Bell taking two wins off of two pinfalls for six total points. Graduate Alex Blake led FSU in the 149 lbs weight class, winning three out of six matches for an eighth place finish, earning a decision and two major decisions for 7.5 points. In the consolation round, sophomore Gage Heilbrun picked up a tech fall win in an all-FSU bout with classmate Austen Slaybaugh.
Sophomore Mason Buckler had the top Frostburg finish in the 157 lbs weight class, taking five out of his six matches on four pinfalls and one decision, finishing in fifth place for 18 total points after winning the consolation bracket. Redshirt sophomore Noah Reho was the only Bobcat to wrestle in the 165 lbs weight class, securing a sudden victory and a tech fall for another eighth place finish for FSU on the day, securing seven points.
Graduate Owen Butler made his mark for the program, finishing second overall at 174 lbs, securing two tech falls and a major decision for 22 team points, dropping an 11-4 decision in the championship match. The Bobcats shined in the 184 lbs weight class, with sophomore Duncan Kammar leading the way on two pinfalls and a decision for nine team points and another eighth place finish. Freshmen Andrew Wolfanger and Austin Lewis each won two matches for a combined 7.5 team points, while fellow freshman Colten Huffman won one match to add three points to the team's score.
Freshmen Cole Yonkin and Alex Hoy impressed at 197 lbs, with the former taking eighth place for 7.5 points off a fall and major decision, and the latter getting a victory on a pinfall. Sophomore Gavin Bage tallied a third place finish in the 285 weight class, where he won a trio of matches by a pinfall, tech fall, and a medical forfeit for 18.5 team points, the second-best total for the Bobcats.
Frostburg finished with 98.5 team points, coming in between Ashland (126) at third and Belmont Abbey (97) in fifth.
