Weakley Named MEC Player of the Year, Eckleberry Earns Coach of the Year

The Mountain East Conference announced its 2023-2024 Women's Basketball award winners and all-conference teams on Monday, two days prior to the start of the conference tournament.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced its 2023-2024 Women's Basketball award winners and all-conference teams on Monday, two days prior to the start of the conference tournament.

Frostburg State sophomore Emilee Weakley was named the league's Player of the Year, while also being placed on the All-MEC First Team.  FSU Head Coach Jenna Eckleberry was recognized as MEC Coach of the Year in just her second season at the helm of the program.

Weakley led the conference in scoring for the second consecutive year, averaging 25.4 points per game, while pulling down a solid 7 rebounds per game for seventh most in the MEC, and tying for the most steals on the team with 35.  With solid numbers all-around, Weakley shot 47.5% from the field for sixth best in the league, 79.8% from the free throw line for fifth best in the MEC, and in addition, 36.4% from three.  Weakley surpassed 1,000 career points this season, while concluding the regular season with four double-doubles and two 40-point games.

Eckleberry led the Bobcats to an 18-10 regular season record and a 14-6 record in conference play, for the program's most wins and most conference wins sine the 2009-2010 season. With the program having won just five games the year before Eckleberry's arrival, she has doubled the Bobcats from nine wins in her first season to their most at the Division II level. Frostburg sits at third in the MEC heading into the tournament, for their highest-ever finish in the MEC and highest conference seed since 2009-10.
