Women's Lacrosse Receives IWLCA Division II Community Awareness Award

The IWLCA announced announced its 2024 IWLCA Community Awareness Individual and Team Award Winners on Thursday, in which the Frostburg Women's Lacrosse team received the Division II Team Award.

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The IWLCA announced announced its 2024 IWLCA Community Awareness Individual and Team Award Winners on Thursday, in which the Frostburg Women's Lacrosse team received the Division II Team Award.

The award recognizes one team in each Division that has contributed significantly to their community during the academic year. While academics are not directly associated with the award, at least 50% of the team's roster must have participated in community service activities to be eligible for the award.

FSU, under head coach Taylor Cline, assisted in several events in the regional area, including the Western Maryland Craft Beverage Festival, where they helped with setup, ticketing, and clean-up, supporting the Allegany County Humane Society's fundraiser. They also participated in "Get in the Game," a drive for the National Bone Marrow registry, collecting swabs from campus members to find compatibility and potentially save lives.

Among sport-specific activities, the team organized and participated in the One Love Fall Play Day, hosting a lacrosse tournament in honor of Yeardley Love. The team's home game against Lock Haven was their annual Morgan's Message Game, dedicated to raising mental health awareness among athetes.

They further demonstrated their support by cheering on a runner during the Marvelous Run, promoting awareness for intellectually and physically disabled children. Additionally, the team engages in festive local community events such as Storybook Holiday, Beautify the Burg, the Frostburg Halloween Parade, and Trunk-N-Treat.
