Smith, Sterne, Gillette Receive United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches announced their All-Region Teams on Tuesday afternoon, with Frostburg State Women Soccer seniors Cat Smith and Katie Sterne, alongside junior Carly Gillette receiving the honors.
Smith rounds out her Frostburg career as a member of the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team, having previously been named MEC Defensive Player of the Year and D2CCA Second Team All-American, while also receiving First Team All-MEC and D2CCA All-Region honors.
As the Bobcat's main source on defense, Smith played a team-high 1,708 minutes in her final season in an FSU uniform, giving up just 16 goals on the season in 21 games, while also helping provide 12 defensive shutouts. Smith helped lead Frostburg to their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance, filling out the stat sheet on the year with five goals and two assists on the offensive end, while seeing a team-high 42 shots. Smith earned 12 total points on the season, tallying three game-winning goals on the year as well.
Sterne, a First Team All-MEC member, and Gillette, a First Team All-MEC and Second Team D2CCA All-Region honoree, were both named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team.
Sterne made a tremendous mark on the program in her senior season in goal, racking up 53 saves for a .815 save percentage in 20 games. Sterne finished with a .70 goals against average, putting up seven shutouts on the year, and combining for four more. Gillette guided FSU's midfield throughout the year, starting all 21 games and playing well all around the ball. Gillette finished second on the team in goals with seven, while dishing out one assist on the year for a total of 15 points. She captured two game-winning goals on the season, taking 35 shots in a total of 1,176 minutes played.
