Johnson Announced as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach
FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State Director of Athletics Troy Dell has announced the hiring of Desire Johnson as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach.
Johnson, in his first head coaching role, takes over having most recently served as an assistant coach under former Bobcat Nate Farlow at Catholic University during the 2023-24 season. Also a former player for the FSU men's team, Johnson spent one season as a volunteer coach in 2022-23 after spending his graduate season on the court in 2021-22.
While at Catholic, Johnson helped the teams to highly successful seasons, as both the men and women qualified for their respective Landmark Conference tournaments for the first time since 2021. The men's team won their quarterfinal matchup, marking the program's first conference tournament victory since 2014. CU's men's team featured three All-Conference members, including a pair on the First Team in both singles and doubles, while the women had two All-Conference honorees themselves.
During his time at Frostburg, he helped coach the women's team to their first double-digit win season in several years, with two players receiving All-MEC honors, while the men's team also secured one honoree.
Prior to arriving at FSU, Johnson played four years at Johnson C. Smith University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management, eventually earning his Master's Degree in Recreation and Parks Management with a Concentration in Sport Management from Frostburg.
