Mastria, 4x100 Relay Earn First Places for Women's Track & Field in Outdoor Opener

The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team started their outdoor season on the road Friday and Saturday, participating in the Stan Romanoksi Open at West Virginia University, where the Bobcats took home multiple top-15 finishes on the day.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team started their outdoor season on the road Friday and Saturday, participating in the Stan Romanoksi Open at West Virginia University, where the Bobcats took home multiple top-15 finishes on the day.

FSU took first place in the 4x100 relay with the team of freshmen Isabella Mastria and Lilly Williams and sophomores Malaika Habib and Valerie Boards, crossing the finish line with a 49.37 time. In the 400 meters, sophomore Jasmine Scott (1:00.88) knotted second place, while Mastria (1:01.71) came in fifth and Williams (1:03.51) slid into 15th. The Bobcats also had success in the 100 and 200 meters with a handful of athletes placing well in both events. Boards and Habib took 9th and 16th in the 100 with times of 12.79 and 13.07, respecitvely, while in the 200, Mastria (27.07) placed ninth, Habib (27.32) took 12th, Scott (27.47) came in 13th, and Williams (27.53) brought in a 15th place finish.

Three freshmen placed 9th, 10th, and 11th in the 1,500m steeple, with Hannah Schauman clocking 5:47, Emily Wishart knotting a 5:51.03 time, and Paige Etnoyer crossing the finish line with a 5:54.94 time. Senior Hannah Muir finished 13th in the 5,000 meters with a 19:41.51 finish, while junior Amy Tarcza (20:21.91) and sophomore Adra Schell (20:42.49) came in 19th and 22nd, both setting a new personal record.

In the field events, Mastria led the long jump, picking up first place with a jump of 5.23m, sliding into 10th all-time in program history. Sophomore Eva Morrison finished second in the pole vault with a 3.35m height, with senior Morgan Mathews clearing 2.60m to come in 11th, tying the sixth best height in program history. To round out the meet in the throws, sophomore Addy Cottrill earned fourth overall in the discus at 38.02m, then tossed 10.41m in the shot put to finish 15th.

Frostburg will next compete in the Raleigh Relays down south over the span of three days from Thursday, March 28-Saturday, March 30 at NC State. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
