Ndiaye, Mathews Place Top-Three, Boards Ties Program Record at MEC Championships

The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team found themselves remaining in fourth place after the second day of the MEC Outdoor Championships.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team found themselves remaining in fourth place after the second day of the MEC Outdoor Championships.
 
Sophomore Khady Ndiaye picked up a pair of top-five finishes on the day, securing third in the high jump at 1.50m and fourth in the triple jump at 11.46m, setting a new personal best in the latter category as the fourth-best leap in program history.
 
Having finished day one of the heptathlon in fourth, senior Morgan Mathews moved up a spot on day two to take third in the event at 3,773 points, blowing past her previous career best of 3,455 and marking the fourth-best total in program history. She set career highs in the 200 (27.52) and the 800 meters (2:38.01). Also during the heptathlon, senior Erin Haviland secured a personal best in the 200 at 28.53.
 
In the final scoring event of the day, freshmen Paige Etnoyer (12:11.03), Hannah Schauman (12:16.22), and Emily Wishart (12:17.88) placed fourth through sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with both Etnoyer and Wishart recording personal marks as the third and sixth-best times in program history, respectively. Also in a scoring place, senior Hannah Muir came eighth at 12:36.15, having already run the 10,000 meters the day before.
 
Along with field event scores, on the track, preliminary races were run to determine qualifiers for tomorrow's finals. In the 400 meters, FSU had the top two times with sophomore Jasmine Scott (57.11) and freshman Isabella Mastria (57.15), the latter setting a personal best as the sixth-best mark in program history. Two Bobcats qualified for the 100 meters in sophomores Valerie Boards (12.28) and Malaika Habib (12.30), the latter securing a new PR and tying for seventh all-time.
 
Boards went on to secure the top mark in qualifying for the 200 meters, as her 24.67 set a new PR and ties the program record set by former standout Kayla Truesdel in 2017. Joining her in tomorrow's field will be Scott (25.28), who also scored a personal best and now stands ninth all-time, and Mastria (25.64) also setting a career high. Just missing out on qualifying for the finals, Habib (25.95) made it four-for-four in personal records set during the trials.
