Relay Teams Secure Victories as Women's Track & Field Places Third at MEC Championships

The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team finished the MEC Outdoor Championships in third overall out of nine total teams after the final day of events.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team finished the MEC Outdoor Championships in third overall out of nine total teams after the final day of events.
 
Both the 4x100 (47.46) and 4x400-meter (3:56.29) relay teams of sophomores Malaika Habib and Valerie Boards and freshmen Isabella Mastria and Lilly Williams took first place, as in the former race, they set a new season-best that stands as the third-fastest in program history.
 
Mastria (56.84) went on to take second in the 400 meters behind sophomore Jasmine Scott (56.27), as both set PR's to set themselves fourth and third all-time, respectively, in school history. Habib (12.35) and Boards (12.36) took fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100 meters. During the 200 meters, Boards (25.02), Scott (25.35), and Mastria (25.55) took positions three through five, with Mastria securing a new personal best in the race.
 
Rounding out the meet as the final scoring athlete for the Bobcats, freshman Emily Wishart set a new career best in the 1,500 meters, with her 5:05.25 good enough for eighth overall.  
 
The third-place finish is the highest-ever for the program since joining the Mountain East Conference, with their 118 points also setting a new high.
