Morrison Sets Record as Women's Track & Field Opens Season in Three Competitions

The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team competed at three events over the weekend, traveling to the Youngstown Icebreaker, Marietta First Glimpse, and Mike Kowal Multi to open their season.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team competed at three events over the weekend, traveling to the Youngstown Icebreaker, Marietta First Glimpse, and Mike Kowal Multi to open their season.
 
At YSU, the 4x400 team of sophomores Valerie Boards, Malaika Habib, Jasmine Scott, and freshman Isabella Mastria set the fourth-fastest time both in the meet and in program history, finishing at 4:02.68. Mastria went on to set a trio of top-10 program results, with the sixth-fastest 60 meters (7.87), seventh-fastest 400 meters (59.11), and eighth-best long jump (5.15m). Boards set a new PR in the 200 meters at 25.53, placing ninth in the event, while Scott placed ninth in the 400 meters (58.31) and ran her fastest-ever 60 meters in 8.14.
 
Rounding out the sprints, freshman Larasia Buckner set the fifth-fastest 60-meter hurdle mark in 9.26, then put up a new personal record by finishing 10th in the triple jump at 10.77m, also the seventh-best mark in school history. In the distance events, sophomore Alana Dyce-Giraud set a new personal high in the 5000 meters in 18:47.18, placing 10th overall.
 
In the Marietta First Glimpse invite, sophomore Eva Morrison broke her own school pole vault record at 3.40 meters, winning the event by nearly three full feet. Sophomore Khady Ndiaye placed second in the triple jump, with her leap of 11.18 meters also good enough for fourth all-time in program history. Also in the leaping events, freshman Trinity Maurice won the high jump with a height of 1.55 meters, with Ndiaye placing fifth at 1.50m.
 
Sophomore Addy Cottrill earned a pair of top-three finishes in the throws, placing second in the weight throw at 13.42 for sixth all-time at FSU, then coming third in the shot put at 11.15m, with freshman Raegan Philips taking fifth at 10.70m.
 
Ending the weekend at Edinboro for the two-day pentathlon, senior Erin Haviland set a new personal record with 2300 points, also setting her highest totals in the 60-meter hurdles (10.33) and the shotput (8.90m).
 
Frostburg returns to action in the new year when they head back to Youngstown State on Friday, January 19. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
