Boards, Scott, 4x400 Relay Take First Team Honors for Women's Track at Championships
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State women's track team finished in fourth place at the Mountain East Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing with 87.5 team points, their highest-ever total at the meet.
Sophomore Valerie Boards had two first place finishes to go with a runner-up performance across the championships. She won the 200-meters with a new school record at 25.02, then placed second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.84. Along with Boards, sophomore Jasmine Scott and freshmen Isabella Mastria and Lilly Williams too first in the 4x400 relay, setting the second-fastest time in school history at 3:58.05.
Scott also came first in the 400-meters with a 57.07, just ahead of Mastria at 57.34 for a 1-2 Bobcat punch in the event. In addition to her 400 time being the second-fastest in program history, Mastria also took fourth in the long jump at 5.29 meters.
In the field events, sophomore Eva Morrison earned third in the pole vault, clearing 3.23 meters, while graduate Morgan Mathews set the seventh-best program mark at 2.63m. Sophomore Khady Ndiaye jumped 11.25m to take fourth in the triple jump and the third all-time spot in the FSU record books.
Sophomore Addy Cottrill had the best finish among the throwers in the shot put, placing fifth at 11.58 meters, her best toss of the indoor season. The distance medley relay team of freshmen Paige Etnoyer and Emily Wishart, Scott, and senior Amy Tarcza also finished in fifth with a time of 13:10.22, the second-best in Bobcat history. Etnoyer (5:28.41) and Wishart (5:28.87) went on to put forward the eighth- and tenth-best times, respectively, for the mile in school history. Also in the distance events, sophomore Alana Dyce set a pair of top-five marks in the 3,000 meters (10:46.50) and the 5,000 meters (18:44.45) at the No. 4 and No. 5-fastest times, respectively.
