  • Description
CES at FSU and Department of Student Engagement Present Grammy-Nominated Ensemble Plena Libre

The Cultural Events Series at Frostburg State University and the Department of Student Engagement will present Grammy-nominated ensemble Plena Libre in a free performance of exhilarating music from the soul of Puerto Rico on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m. at the FSU Clock Tower Quad.

Masters of traditional Puerto Rican plena and bomba styles, Plena Libre fuses vibrant hand drumming, boisterous horns and lush, three-part vocal harmonies with Afro-Caribbean jazz for an electrifying stage performance that honors unique indigenous musical traditions while embracing modern sounds.

Immediately following the performance, WFWM station director Chuck Dicken will join the musicians for a conversation with the audience.

The performance is free, and tickets are not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall in FSU’s Lane University Center.

For more information, visit ces.frostburg.edu or call 301-687-3137.

This engagement of Plena Libre is made possible in part through the Mid Atlantic Tours program of Mid Atlantic Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. CES is supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council (msac.org) and receives financial support from the Allegany Arts Council and the City of Frostburg.
