This is a great opportunity to make new friends, socialize, eat a great "home cooked meal." Students sometimes hang out to watch movies, play games or study. Its also okay to "eat and run." State Senator Mike Mckay (who represents Allegany, Garrett, and parts of Washington County) and State Senator MaryBeth Carozza (who represents Worchester, Somerset, and parts of Wicomico County) will be speaking to our campus and local community on September 23rd at 4 pm in the ARMAH. The senators will be on campus to talk about sexual violence on college campuses and how students can get involved in battling this issue. Senators will also talk about the importance of civic engagement in young adult lives and how they can make a difference in their local communities.This event will be hosted by Daileah Ramirez and her staff sponsor Daniel Moorehead as part of her Langenberg Speaking Series. This event aims to inspire college-aged students to get involved in the legislative process to help reduce sexual violence in Maryland.

FSU’s African American Studies Program Presents Rev. Justin Searls in Presentation, “Liberty to the Captive”As part of the African American Lecture series, Frostburg State University’s African American Studies Program will host the Rev. Justin Searls on Tuesday, Sept. 24, for a lecture titled “Liberty to the Captive: The Two Definitions of Equality in the Abolitionist Movement.” The lecture will take place from 7 to 8.30 p.m. in room 111 of FSU’s Lane University Center. The event is free and open to the public.Searls is a Christian minister, chaplain, professional writer and modern abolitionist. He has written and published several commentaries and letters to the editor in different newspapers. He is the author of “Freedom’s Proclamation: The Abolition of Slavery and the Theology of the Civil War,” a Bible study demonstrating how God condemned racism in the Bible and providentially through the Civil War. He is also the author of two poetry compilations – “The Cross in the Night” and “The Light of the Eternal Holy Fire.” Searls graduated from the University of Akron summa cum laude with a bachelor’s in political science with a focus on history.
