What to Expect - Parents

Welcome to our Bobcat Family! We are excited to be sharing in your family’s new adventure with us and look forward to serving you and your student for the next four years. As you and your student begin the process of preparing for college life at Frostburg State, we wanted to share some information about our Preview FSU summer orientation program with you. Though this program is optional for parents and families, it is required for incoming students to ensure their preparedness for the Fall 2019 term. This general overview will give you insight as to what you can expect should you wish to attend our Preview FSU. The schedule is subject to change and a more detailed program schedule will be provided at Preview FSU.

PARENT SCHEDULE - DAY ONE

  • Please make sure your student is on campus between 8:30am and 9:30am and has had breakfast. They will be assigned an on-campus room for the evening and will drop off their belongings at check-in. Parents are asked to proceed to the Performing Arts Center for our Welcome Session, which begins at 10:15am.
  • The Parent Program is designed to aid in the transition for you and your student into college life. Topics covered range from academic support to veterans affairs. Parents will have an opportunity to meet with their student’s Preview FSU academic advisor to discuss academic requirements and campus life.
  • Please limit the size of your party due to space limitations and know that children may not enjoy the classroom style format of the program.
  • Students are not permitted to leave during the program at any time.
  • We ask that you refrain from texting or calling while the students are engaged in their program.
  • Parents are responsible for their lodging and meals.
  • Students are provided all meals and are lodged on campus for “Night One”

PARENT SCHEDULE - DAY TWO

  • The Bobcat Information Fair will allow you to circulate around the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall, Lane University Center, to discuss campus safety, the University Bookstore, campus health services and more! Also, area businesses will be in attendance, allowing you to learn about banking, transportation, and other services available within the Frostburg community.
  • Students will be finalizing their academic schedules and will meet you in the Lane University Center around noon.
  • Students should check out of their on-campus assigned room by 12:45pm.
  • An optional family pizza luncheon will be hosted at Edgewood Commons where you can also tour their facility and mingle with other Class of 2023 families.

Please note that your student will be with the Class of 2023 throughout the two-day program, including meals, and all students will be residing on campus the first night of the program. Students will have limited time to talk with their parents during the Preview FSU program due to the multitude of testing, academic advising, and programs students are attending. Frostburg State University is a smoke-free campus, including all University grounds and parking lots.
