Men's Tennis 2025 Season Preview

FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State Athletics will be taking a preview of each team competing in the spring season, covering nine total sports.  Over the next couple weeks, each team will be broken down into their matchups, key players, and overall outlook for their season and program.  To conclude the first week is Men's Tennis.

Overall
Frostburg Men's Tennis looks to continue their 68th ever season, having competed three times in the fall.  The Bobcats competed in the ITA Tournament, as well as the Cardinal Invitational.  FSU did pick up a 7-0 win in their first match of the full season, defeating Shepherd on the road in September.  Frostburg is led by first-year Head Coach Desire Johnson, who played for the Bobcats in the 2021-2022 season, before then volunteering as a coach for the 2022-2023 season.  Johnson is joined by Assistant Coach Del Carden, who also played for FSU.

Last Season
Frostburg is coming off a memorable season in 2024, having locked in their first-ever spot in the MEC Tournament, entering as the No. 4 seed.  FSU finished with a 7-12 overall record, picking up a conference win over West Virginia State.  German Diaz was named First Team All-MEC to round out the season, being the first Bobcat to receive the distinction since the program joined Division II.

The Returners
Johnson is happy to have nine returners back from last years squad, losing just one in the 2024 senior class, with that being Carden.  Graduate Nate Burkhardt along with seniors Matt Bolen and Cian Cabodevilla return for their finale season in a FSU uniform, while Diaz returns as a junior, alongside doubles partner junior Cole Alcala, who earned Second Team All-MEC in 2023.  Noah Fisher and Jason Haley also come back as juniors, rounding out the returning upperclassmen, while Viktor Boban and Otto Hintermister rejoin the team as sophomores.

The Newcomers
For the spring season, Johnson welcomes one new Bobcat to the team to round out their 10-man roster, welcoming freshman Joey Mullenax from Williamsport.

Kick off to Season
The Bobcats start spring session at Edinboro on Sunday, February 16, playing their first seven games of the spring on the road.  Frostburg holds both their home and MEC opener on Wednesday, March 26, when the team welcomes in Charleston (WV) at 1 PM.
