Volleyball Drops Contests to Indianapolis and Edinboro to Wrap Up Home Tournament

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Volleyball team lost to Indianapolis and Edinboro on Saturday during the final day of the Bobcat Invitational, both by scores of 3-0. 
 
Indianapolis quickly scored five points to hold a 5-0 advantage over Frostburg in their first match of the day, until senior Beverely Braun knocked down a kill for the Bobcat's first point of the game.  FSU picked up a duo of points off errors made by the Greyhounds to cut the game to 6-3, before UINDY fought right back to regain a five-point lead.  A kill from freshman Dani Kunkle saw the next point for Frostburg, before the Bobcats strung together a trio of points, led by a service ace from freshman Devin Brunk, to see the score at 8-7.  Both teams exchanged scores, before FSU rallied for seven consecutive points to cut in front 15-10, with Braun and sophomore Paige Mock racking up kills.  The Greyhounds picked up back-to-back pairs of scores, getting within two, but two kills by Braun kept the Bobcats in front.  Indianapolis responded by tying the game at 17, before regaining the lead at 19-18.  Back-to-back kills from senior AJ Thompson and Mock pushed Frostburg ahead 20-19, before UINDY brought the score to 21-21.  With kills from freshman Emery Kuebler and Braun putting the game at another tie, the Greyhounds scored two straight points to steal set one 25-23. 
 
Both teams traded points to start set two, with Braun and sophomore Maya Johnson getting the ball rolling for FSU.  The Bobcats broke a 5-5 tie off an error by Indianapolis, followed by a kill from Kunkle, putting Frostburg in the lead 7-5.  UINDY rallied back to jump ahead 8-7, before kills from Kunkle and Braun put FSU ahead once again.  With both teams continuing to exchange points offensively, the Bobcats were able to take three straight points, with Thompson and Braun each being credited with a kill.  Frostburg held on to a 14-12 lead, before the Greyhounds sparked for four consecutive points to go up 16-14.  Two points from Kunkle tied the game up once again, before UINDY jumped back in front by two.  After seeing ties at 18, 20, and 21, Indianapolis put up a fight to stay on top, taking set two, again by a score of 25-23. 
 
The Greyhounds used their momentum to score the first five points of set three, staying out in front to take an 8-1 lead.  Kills from Braun and Kunkle saw the first offensive action for the Bobcats in set three, as Frostburg struggled to have an answer for Indianapolis defensively.  Johnson secured a pair of kills, before UINDY took three straight points to surge in front 14-6.  Kuebler connected on a point for FSU, as Frostburg was able to tack on two more points to their score off errors from the Greyhounds.  Braun, Thompson, and Kunkle all fought to put down kills for the Bobcats, but everything continued to go right on offense for Indianapolis, as they found themselves ahead 21-13.  FSU tallied one more point to their score off an UINDY error, but Indianapolis was able to stay in front for the 25-14 victory in set three. 
 
Braun paved the way for FSU offensively, tallying a team-high 16 kills to go along with a team-high 11 digs.  Kuebler dished out 31 assists to go along with 10 digs, while senior Fiona Gonzalez Medina was credited with 10 digs as well. 
 
Frostburg fell behind in their first set against Edinboro, as The Scots picked up the first two points of the match.  Junior Amanda Knieper knocked down the first kill and point of the match for FSU, as Edinboro continued to click on offense.  The Bobcats earned a point of an error by The Scots, with Thompson then swatting down a kill, as Frostburg found themselves down 7-3.  Braun got in on the offensive action for FSU, claiming the next two points for the Bobcats, as the score read 7-5.  Everything continued to go right for Edinoboro, as The Scots rallied for five consecutive points to push in front 12-5.  Frostburg earned a point off an attack error from Edinboro, as The Scots continued to fight, putting up seven straight points for a 19-6 lead.  Kills from Knieper, Mock, Kunkle, and Braun rounded out the points for FSU to end the match 21-10 in favor of Edinboro. 
 
The Scots kept their energy going for set two, racking up the first two points of the match once again.  Braun scored the first points of the set for Frostburg, as Edinboro connected on two more scores to build a 4-1 advantage.  The Bobcats tallied a point, before Kunkle swatted down a kill and Knieper earned a service ace, bringing FSU within one.  Frostburg continued to push, scoring three straight points to capture an 8-7 lead.  The Scots quickly tied things right away at eight apiece, before taking back their lead shortly after.  Mock was able to tie the game at nine, with an Edinboro attack error giving FSU a 10-9 edge.  Edinboro had finally had enough, playing for the next three points to earn a 13-10 lead.  Braun and Kunkle were able to dish down kills, but The Scots did everything correctly to stay in front, taking the next eight points to come out on top 25-13 in set two. 
 
The Bobcats fought for a 3-2 advantage early on in set three with kills from Braun and Thompson, as two points from Knieper guided Frostburg to a 7-5 edge.  Edinboro started to click on offense, taking the next four points to hold on to a 9-7 lead.  FSU used The Scots offensive errors to their advantage, pulling within one for a 11-10 game.  Two kills and a service ace by Braun brought the game to a 14-14 tie, but Edinboro continued to strike, pushing in front 17-14.  Kills from Knieper and Kunkle, followed by an attack error by Edinboro, got the Bobcats within once again for an 18-17 game, but The Scots were just able to hold on to their lead.  Kuebler and Braun worked together to put points on the board for FSU, as a pair of attack errors from Edinboro allowed Frostburg to get within one again for a 23-22 score.  The Scots were able to pick up the final two points of the match, allowing them to secure the 25-22 victory in set three. 
 
Braun (8), Mock (4), and Kunkle (4) led the way in kills, as Kuebler pushed out 18 assists.  Gonzalez Medina led in digs with 13, while Kuebler (11) and Knieper (8) followed right behind her.
