Ramos, Coombes Go Unbeaten as Women's Tennis Defeats Warriors at Home
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team picked up their home opening win in a close 4-3 decision over East Stroudsburg on Friday afternoon.
FSU began the meet in fine fashion, as seniors Julia Ramos and Alyssa Kush cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while juniors Ella Troxell and Claudia Coombes took the No. 3 match 6-3 to secure the doubles point. Junior Patricia Castejon and freshman Marissa Greig battled back-and-forth in a 7-6 loss as ESU avoided the doubles sweep.
In singles play, the Warriors took sweeps at the two, four, and six spots, while Castejon (6-4, 6-1) and Coombes (6-4, 6-3) picked up wins at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively. Having fallen behind early in the first set, Ramos battled back to win 7-5 before dominating 6-0 in set two to secure the victory at the top spot and the meet win 4-3.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 2-2 on the year, while East Stroudsburg drops to 2-2. The meet concluded FSU's Fall season, as they will return to action on the road Sunday, February 8 against Indiana (Pa.) Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
