Rippeon, Handwerger Each Take Pair of Victories in Women's Swimming Loss to UMW
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Swimming team fell 159-103 on the road to Mary Washington on Saturday.
Sophomore Genna Rippeon picked up FSU's first individual win on the day, placing first in the 1000-yard free (10:28.21), just ahead of classmate Ashley Ellsworth (11:18.24) in second. Rippeon would also later take a win in the 400 IM at 4:32.37, while Ellsworth placed second in the 500 free (5:27.06) behind freshman Jenna Handwerger (5:15.84).
Handwerger also finished first in the 200 fly (2:12.17) with junior Alexis Ramsey (2:15.05) in second, while senior Gaby Betancourt picked up FSU's final individual win in the 100 back at 1:00.51. Sophomore Taylor Emrich had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 free (2:04.11) and the 200 back (2:18.94), as did freshman Riley DeNard in the 200 breast (2:43.17).
The Bobcats closed out the meet with the team of Rippeon, Emrich, sophomore Kay Buhrman, and junior Reagan Chase taking second in the 200 free relay at 1:44.14.
With the loss, Frostburg drops to 4-1 on the year, while UMW improves to 2-1-1. The Bobcats next have a couple weeks' break before traveling to the Wooster Invitational from December 4-6. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
