McCoy Takes Pole Vault as Men's Outdoor Track & Field Shows Out at Hopkins/Loyola Invite
BALTIMORE, Md. - The Frostburg State Men's Outdoor Track & Field team competed in their final meet before the MEC Championships, showing out on Friday and Saturday in the Hopkins/Loyola Invite.
Frostburg's best finish on the day came from senior Tom McCoy, who took the pole vault by setting a new season best of 5.00m. The Bobcats continued to show out in the event as junior Ryan Schaluch (3.95m), freshmen Morgon Corwine (3.80m) and Adeeb Pender (3.80m), and junior Mason Reed (3.65m) placed seventh through tenth respectively, with three of the four setting new personal records.
FSU continued their dominance in the field events, going 2-3-4 in the hammer throw with sophomores Tyler McGraw and Aubrey Ross throwing a 41.73m and 41.00m, while junior Ire Maboudou went for 39.75m. Sophomore Dalton Kasekamp took third place in the shot put with a 13.39m go-around, while McGraw (12.40m) found himself in eighth with freshman Andrew Highland (12.25m) taking tenth. Kasekamp also went for a fourth place finish in the discus with a 42.28m throw, while freshman Jacob Blankenship slid into the top-10 with a throw of 36.71m for ninth place. Frostburg saw 9-10-11 in the javelin throw, with junior Scott Haste (42.21m), Blankenship (40.11m), and Maboudou (39.52m) filing in order.
Freshman Mason Worley shined in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.10, while junior Justin Dowell placed eighth in the 400m with a time of 50.98 and fellow junior Brandon Stein clocked a 10:13.04 in the 3000m steeple for a personal record. Senior Marquise Burks succeeded in the 110m hurdles going for a 15.74 time to see fourth place, while freshman Desaun Jeffery (15.83) and Worley (16.11) saw sixth and ninth to round out the top-10 placements. Burks then went on to secure a seventh place long jump of 6.27m, while freshman Dorian Grubb was closely behind in ninth with a 6.08m length, with the latter also going on to take seventh in the triple jump with a season-best of 13.05m.
The 4x400m relay team ran a new season-best of 3:26.53 for a third place finish, as sophomores Isayah Stewart (1:57.49) and Jaxon Jones (1:57.78) showed the best times for the Bobcats in the 800m, both going for season bests in 12th and 14th place, while senior Austin Comeaux (16:12.63) ran a season-best for 16th place in the 5000m, with freshman Ben Saltysiak (16:25.48) right behind him in 19th.
