FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg State Athletics will be taking a preview of each team competing in the spring season, covering nine total sports.  Over the next two days, both remaining teams will be broken down into their matchups, key players, and overall outlook for their season and program.  To start the final draw is Men's Track & Field.

Overall
Frostburg State Men's Track & Field is gearing up for their outdoor season this spring, after coming in seventh in the MEC Indoor Championships a month ago.  John Kerns and Ballard Suiter look to lead the program, rejoining the staff for their fifth consecutive year, as Nate Mesy and Baby Jimerson join the squad as graduate assistants.

Last Season
The Bobcats had a memorable 2024 outdoor season, competing in a total of six meets before the MEC Outdoor Championships and two Last Chance Meets.  FSU hosted their second consecutive Bob Lewis Classic on their home track, while placing second and third out of 17 teams in the Messiah and Hopkins-Loyola Invites.  In the conference championship, Frostburg came in fourth out of 10 squads, where Marquise Burks (6,284) took the decathlon, Tom McCoy (4.80m) won the pole vault, Nate Shields (6.99m) came out on top in the long jump, and Mesy (47.80) placed second in the 400m, setting a new program record.  McCoy went on in the team's WVU Last Chance Meet to set his own new all-time mark, hitting 5.01m for a new program best, while Ben Treat was the other Bobcat to place in the top-10 finishes in program history during the outdoor season, sliding into fifth all-time in the shot put with a throw of 15.06m.

FSU had a strong start to their 2024-25 indoor season, participating in eight meets total, including the MEC Indoor Championships.  At the conference meet, McCoy reached 4.80m, crowning him a MEC Champion in the pole vault for the second year in a row, as Morgan Corwine was awarded All-MEC Honorable Mention for a third place finish in the event with a height of 3.80m.  Mason Reed received All-MEC Honorable Mention for his performance in the heptathlon where he finished third, right in front of Blake Stevens, who placed fourth going for 3,897 points which is the sixth most in program history.  The 4x400m relay team of Justin Dowell, Cohen Arbogast, Mason Worley, and Jack Hynes also took home All-MEC Honorable Mention, clocking a 3:21.29 finish, setting the second-best time in program history. Arbogast (50.14) and Dowell (50.35) put up top-10 times in program history in the 400m, while Aubrey Russ showed a 15.71m in the weight throw, sitting him fifth in school history.

The Returners
Kerns and Suiter sit with 24 returners from last year's outdoor squad, starting with McCoy and Burks, who return for their final year in a Frostburg uniform.  McCoy looks to continue his mark on the program, entering the outdoor session as a USTFCCCA All-Region member after the indoor season, clearing 4.97m in the team's final meet of their indoor run, sitting him 23rd in the event in the country.  Austin Comeaux and Rondell Carlton come back for their final go-around as well, as those four will represent the graduating class.  Joining them on the upperclassmen side is Dowell and Reed, while Scott Haste will show for the field events.  The sophomore class shows mostly distant runners, including Hynes, Ryan Connelly, Nathan Hillhouse, Jaxon Jones, Isayah Stewart, and Gage Osborne, while Russ, Dalton Kasekamp, Tyler McGraw, and Ire Maboudou help show for the throws area.

The Newcomers
FSU welcomes in 14 new faces to the outdoor season, bringing in freshman talent in all events.  Corwine looks to continue his success from his indoor debut, while Arbogast and Worley will compete in sprints in their first collegiate outdoor season, with Stevens representing the jump events.  Jalen Gordon, Adeeb Pender, Matteo Mosby, Darius Cummings, Ben Saltysiak, and Ethan McKee were all athletes to compete in running events during the indoor session as well, while Dorian Grubb represented the freshmen in jumps, and Willie Washington and Andrew Highland competed in the throws.
